Job Statement:

Responsible for the business development and sales for the Tonawanda and Central New York regions, while also, supporting other regional offices. Manage staff consisting of Regional Sales Managers, Sales/Account Executives, Business Development Specialists, Cost Engineers, etc. Responsible for annual sales budget and achieving annual sales goals and profit for all departments under the Director. Manage cost estimating, secure negotiated and bid-specification work for Smart Buildings projects and negotiated/bid Service Agreements. Promotes the sale of all business sectors within SmartEdge including energy services, commissioning, security and card access, facility solutions, mechanical design-build services, HVAC equipment, and data networking.

Essential/Critical Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership for all departments and staff under your direct supervision.
  • Responsible to develop annual sales budgets and meet goals for applicable departments / cost centers.
  • Achieve annual budgeted sales bookings and gross margins on a quarterly basis, including bookings and gross margins for all sales staff reporting to Director.
  • Manage Cost Engineer(s) for estimating smart building projects.
  • Review estimates for projects and service agreements to ensure accuracy and corporate margins are achieved.
  • Perform estimate and take off utilizing design drawings and specifications.
  • Prepare proposal and scope letters for negotiated and bid projects.
  • Provide consultative sales to our clients and work with our partners to maximize services.
  • Responsible also to assist other departments on strategic team sales.
  • Maintain and Implement Strategic Plan for applicable departments. Promote all other SmartEdge product & service offerings to develop leads generated by other SmartEdge sales reps.
  • Promote Smart Buildings.  Continuously identify technologies that will promote SmartEdge as the solution for Integrated Buildings.  Identify products SmartEdge can furnish for a total solution.
  • Assist consulting engineers in preparing plans and specifications based on represented hardware and software solutions to generate plan and spec business within territory.
  • Partner with developers, general contractors, and mechanical contractors to provide negotiated design / build solutions.
  • Develop partnerships with electrical Subcontractors to ensure best competitive pricing on jobs.
  • Develop specific solutions for clients to help them solve their operating and business goals.
  • Perform sales presentations to engineers, clients, trade groups, and end users
  • Participating in sales calls with other SmartEdge sales reps.
  • Join and maintain membership status with local trade organizations relevant to our core business and customers.
  • Provide leadership on all booked projects by monitoring project profitability, change orders, cash flow and jobsite visits.
  • Develop target project sales plan and keep current. Provide sales plan updates as required.
  • Update B&B on weekly basis
  • Review McGraw Hill and Contract Reporter daily to qualify projects and establish Targets.
  • Review Construction Exchange on-line plan room to identify bidding activity.
  • Participate in trade shows as required.
  • Implement marketing plans as required.
  • Perform employee performance reviews.

  • Join & participate in trade associations such as ASHRAE, BOMA.
  • Assist with collections when requested.
  • Report all assets status on Asset Tracker, and confirm assets monthly when asked to do so.

Education and Experience:

  • AAS in mechanical and/or electrical engineering or 8 years equivalent experience
  • BS or 5 years equivalent experience
  • 4 years technical sales experience
  • Previous experience with process controls, HVAC systems and related controls extremely beneficial.
  • Previous experience in the plan and specification market very important
  • Stay informed and become proficient on new products, procedures, industry regulations & codes.
