Job Statement:

Responsible for installation, repairs, upgrades and maintenance of mechanical/electrical HVAC systems and the associated pneumatic/electric/electronic controls. Directs others when assisting with installation, maintenance and the troubleshooting/repair of HVAC systems. Work under minimal supervision. Troubleshoots and resolves complex problems utilizing outside vendor resources in addition to own skill sets. Assists in installation, maintenance and the troubleshooting/repair of computer based automation systems.

Essential/Critical Functions and Responsibilities

  • Must be proficient at pipefitting and sheet metal install
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical system up to 480v
  • Must acquire operational knowledge of HVAC equipment and systems (Required Knowledge Base).
  • Perform all Mechanical Technician responsibilities of a M-1 and M-2
  • Must have completed Schneider Electric HVAC certification with a grade of 85% or have equivalent training and pass the final exam.
  • Must have completed Schneider Electric pneumatic certification with a grade of 85% or have equivalent training and pass the final exam.
  • Knowledge and application of the top 50 end devices
  • Universal EPA Certification
  • Ensure customer satisfaction on Maintenance Contract and Service accounts
  • Identify and promote other work to insure the building systems operate properly
  • Be accountable as the lead technician for assigned accounts. Must know scope of work and manage assigned tasks to insure work is scheduled and completed as per job requirements.
  • Provide detailed estimates for time required on projects & meet estimate
  • Proficient at using troubleshooting software and hardware to service and correct problems on SmartEdge product line.
  • Supervise large-scale projects working with T-1 and T-2 level technicians
  • Provide maintenance, Check/Test/Start and troubleshooting/repair on advanced mechanical/electrical HVAC systems as well as pneumatic/electric/electronic control systems.
  • Installation and Repair of: Air handlers, Rooftop units, Uni-vents, Heat Pump systems, Chillers, Refrigeration Systems, Cooling towers, Boilers, Pipefitting, Sheet Metal, Dampers, Motors, Pumps, and other general Mechanical / HVAC systems.
  • Installation of Complex mechanical systems from complete start-up is required.
  • Ensure control systems operate as intended
  • Service power draft boilers > 100 H.P., perform combustion efficiency testing and burner adjustment/tuning for proper operation.
  • Provide service, troubleshooting, retrofit/replacement design/installation for refrigeration systems > 100 Ton, expansion valves, hot gas bypass, low ambient head pressure controls I.E. head master.
  • Moderate engineering, design on Service Extra projects utilizing company standards
  • Must become an expert with calculations and devices used for air and water flow in HVAC systems. Must be able to setup controls to properly read and display the information. Must perform air and water testing and balancing following industry standards for HVAC systems as established in ASHRAE. Provide written reports documenting system conditions before and after
  • Develop preventative maintenance plans
  • Provide advanced maintenance and troubleshooting/repair on mechanical HVAC systems

Education and Experience:

  • Team player within the complete organization.  Honesty, requesting and providing support as necessary.
  • Minimum High School diploma of GED and knowledge of Roof Top Units & atmospheric boilers.
  • Preferred 2 year AAS degree in mechanical or electrical field.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems, the theory of component operation and overall system interaction.
  • Preferred experience in computer operation and DDC control systems.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience as a Mechanical Technician M-2 or actual experience performing this level work in our industry.  Advance knowledge of Refrigeration and heating application and design.
